Truly a cinematic gem
Like people those days we just don’t go and watch movies and then hit the sack. Everyone turns into a movie critic and dissects it no end . Hence this time I just wanted to write about one indie star who always catches my imagination. “One of the symptoms of an approaching nervous breakdown is to assume what one is doing as terribly important” said Bertrand Russel . Somehow I felt that our Vijay Sumar ( for the non Tamils it roughly translates as average Joe face )Sethupathi simply epitomises that fact . He seems to be these days the emperor of casual style arrogance and does things in a languid style that leaves people in awe of him. He always rides on script focussed films and what a relief for the movie goers. He has given many cinematic gems in the recent past and most of which were critically acclaimed and commercially successful as well. For people to flock the theatres definitely there need to be good scripts . His film Vikram Veda is really a gangster film with perhaps a ” O Henry” like twist in the end . In this movie also he is not much into histrionics but just nails it with this simple not so over the top style . How surprising that every movie that he did so far had such diversity in terms of storyline. This Gangster movie is definitely different in the truest sense and worth the watch and the entire cast and crew and the directors have to be lauded for the way they make you root for these characters and how easily you get sucked into the drama as it slowly begins to unfold in its intricately placed layers . After a dry spell with respect to good flicks this comes as whiff of fresh air in terms of content, style and presentation.
