I was recently reminded by my college friend that it is more than 23 long years since we completed our enrolment.
I had to pause for a moment and ponder about the most banal question “Have I achieved enough.” I did take little comfort and solace in telling myself that being a woman and considering the fact that lots of women disappear from the horizon after marriage and child birth confirming the notion that it is difficult to juggle with elan and do equal justice to all the roles women are expected to play. Sometimes the comfortable confines of your home doesn’t motivate you to venture out. I have personally seen many talented and well qualified women settling for the domestic bliss .
No offence meant to the home makers which anyway seems to be the most complicated and arduous task these days . I still feel our country has a long way to go in terms of laws favouring women employees and their working conditions . There is need to ensure more security for women at workplaces and during their commute to work . This will pave way for more women to continue to work and make their way to the higher ranks in the corporate world and also help them to make a more meaningful impact in the board rooms. We can’t still be talking only about Indira Nooyi and her likes. We need more women to travel all the way to the top and not to get dissipated midway . Many a times when I wanted to quit at the most trivial things like the chaotic traffic, home not being spotlessly clean and many other myriad things but something pushes you to show up the next day no matter what and continue to face the challenges . May be if I dint turn up I would have missed my opportunity to travel and speak around the globe , which I felt was the highlight of my career. So you don’t know what you are in store for after years of toil and just not giving up makes your journey that much more worthwhile and you can definitely look back with some sense of accomplishment . So come on girls don’t give up your climb to the pinnacle in whatever you chose to do . Once you get there reinvent yourself by setting more new goals. Dedicated to all working women whose struggles and battles continue unabated . We want more of you
.
